The Samsung INR21700-50GB is an updated version that includes a bottom vent as well as a new top vent design. The new top vent features a "cup and septum" design. This means that the top of the battery has a raised cup-like structure with a small hole, and there is a thin septum or membrane covering the hole. The septum is designed to rupture when the pressure inside the battery reaches a certain level, allowing gas to escape. Compared to the original top vent design, the cup and septum design has some advantages. For one, it provides more reliable and consistent venting performance, as the septum is less likely to become blocked or obstructed compared to a standard vent. The new design also reduces the risk of electrolyte leakage and contamination, as the septum helps to seal the battery and prevent the electrolyte from leaking out. Overall, the new top vent design provides improved safety and reliability compared to the original model.
